STUDIO NOTES / STRATEGY

Before you create more content, get clear on your message.

A busy content calendar can hide a simple problem: the organisation has not agreed on what it wants to say. One department talks about innovation. Another leads with reliability. The audience is left to connect the dots.

Start with one audience

Choose a priority audience and write down the decision you want to help them make. A procurement team assessing a potential partner needs different evidence from a future employee imagining life at your company. Give each audience a clear place in the strategy.

Give your message something to stand on

Write your central message in one plain sentence. Then list the evidence that supports it: a documented process, a customer experience you have permission to share, a relevant qualification, or a specific example of your work. If the evidence is missing, refine the claim.

Build a usable framework

Set out three supporting themes, the questions each theme answers, and the formats that will express it best. A complex process might need a short explainer film. A leadership perspective might work as an article. Let the audience and the idea guide the format.

Make consistency practical

Keep the framework short enough that a colleague can use it while reviewing a post or briefing a photographer. Agree on the language your team uses, the claims it can support, and who makes final decisions.

Before approving the next content calendar, ask: if someone encountered just three pieces of our content, would they understand what makes us relevant to them?
