STUDIO NOTES / STORYTELLING

Your people could be your most compelling brand story.

Corporate storytelling often starts with a polished description of the business. A more revealing starting point can be a conversation with someone doing the work: the specialist solving a difficult problem, the colleague helping a customer, or the team improving a familiar process.

Find a story with a point

Look for an experience that helps your audience understand something specific. Ask people about a challenge, a decision, and what they learned. Concrete details give a story shape and help avoid a collection of generic compliments about the company.

Prepare without over-scripting

Explain where the content will appear, what you hope to explore, and how review will work. Share themes in advance so participants can think, but leave room for their own language. For film, a relaxed conversation can be more useful than a memorised script.

Make participation considered

Ask for informed consent and respect boundaries. Give participants a clear contact for questions, discuss sensitive details before recording, and confirm the agreed uses of their words and images. A thoughtful process is part of producing a credible story.

Plan beyond the hero film

One well-prepared interview can inform a written profile, short clips, still portraits, and a longer editorial piece. Decide these needs before production so each format has a purpose and enough context.

The most useful question is often simple: what would an outsider understand about our organisation after spending a day with this person?
